The Department of Zoology was established from the former Department of Biology in 1940 while Professor E.M. Walker was Head of the department. The Zoology program at the University of Toronto was discontinued in April 2011 along with the Botany program, and the department has been incorporated into what is now the Department of Cell and Systems Biology and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
