Because of his distinction, Ross taught at a number of universities including Queens University before joining the staff at U of T in 1961. He joined as Arthur Baker's sucessor as a professor. When he joined the staff at Trinity College he become the tenth member of the English staff, M.M. Kirkwood having just retired.
