Horace Krever was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1956 and began his career as a litigation lawyer in Toronto. He was a professor of law from 1964-74,in the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto and a special lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and at the University of Western Ontario. Subsequently he was a professor in both faculties of Law and Medicine at the University of Toronto. In 1975, he was appointed Justice to the Supreme Court of Ontario, High Court of Justice. In 1986, he was elevated to the Court of Appeal.

Krever chaired the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Confidentiality of Health Information in 1977. As Co-Chair of the Royal Society of Canada's project on AIDS in 1987 he produced the first comprehensive report on that subject. In 1993, he was appointed to lead the Commission of Inquiry on the Blood System in Canada.

Krever was awarded The Royal Society of Canada Centenary Medal in 1999. In 2010 he was awarded the Law Society Medal presented annually to outstanding Ontario lawyers whose service reflects the highest ideals of the profession.
