Alexander (Sandy) Douglas Gregor, Ph.D. (1944 – January 12, 2023). Sandy Gregor spent his academic career at the University of Manitoba, retiring in 2002 as Professor of Higher Education and Director of the graduate Program in Postsecondary Studies. His primary national involvement was the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education, in which he was named a Distinguished Member in 1995. He had a long and deep commitment to Senior College. He was a Founding Fellow and involved in the development of its initial Constitution. He (along with Ken Rea) began the Senior College Encyclopaedia project, now the Senior College Record. He acted as contact person with CURAC and continued to serve as Special Advisor to Senior College Council.

He began his studies at that university (United College), with subsequent graduate work at the University of Virginia and Michigan State University. During his time at the University of Manitoba, Sandy served also as Associate and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and as Director of the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development (CHERD) and Associate Secretary of the University Senate. His primary research and writing focus was the history of higher education in Canada, and with Canadian Studies more generally. His primary national involvement was the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education, in which he was named a Distinguished Member in 1995. Within the CSSHE, he served as President (1986-7) and as Editor-in-Chief of The Canadian Journal of Higher Education (CJHE).

Alexander (Sandy) Gregor passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at the Toronto General Hospital Cardiac Centre. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Joan Walters, their daughter Emily and two grandchildren, his sister Mary Kraigsley, and his extended family.
