Entered Victoria College, Cobourg as a prepatory student in 1852, graduating in 1859 after an interruption to allow his younger brother the funds to enrol.
Ordained in 1864
Continued studies at Yale (Science) and Garrett Biblical Institute of Evanston, IL (Theology)
MA from Victoria University 1866
Began teaching career at Victoria University, first in science; and then in 1971, theology as well as science
1873 appointed Dean of the new Faculty of Theology
In 1877, helped set up the Theological Union of Victoria, an organization for postgraduate extension of theological study
MA, STD, LLD
President and Chancellor, Victoria University (1887-1913)
Continued to teach doctrinal history until his death in 1918.
