Thesis: " Chaucer's Irony" (supervised by Clawson, William Hall)
After obtaining his Ph.D. in 1936, Earle Birney joined the University College department as a lecturer. He influenced the department's decision to introduce a creative writing course as an additional option for the fourth year of the English Language and Literature undergraduate program.
