Aird was born in Toronto, and attended Upper Canada College and Trinity College, University of Toronto. He graduated from Osgoode Hall in 1949, and with two colleagues established the firm of Aird & Berlis. Aird served as a Senator from 1964 to 1974, and as Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario from 1980-1985.
