Albert Abel was born in Iowa, and studied at Harvard University from 1930, where he was a colleague of [[Laskin, Bora|Bora Laskin]]. He received his doctorate in Law 1943, following which he taught the University of West Virginia (College of Law). He came to the University of Toronto in 1955, with the encouragement of Laskin. His areas of specialist included [[Constitutional Law|constitutional law]] and [[Environment Law|environmental issues (pollution)]].
